Nothing Stays The Same

Just when you think you've found something good, it gets changed or disappears forever. This has happened to me and probably to most of us at least once or twice in our lifetimes. Magazines fold, restaurants close, bands break up, TV shows get cancelled, and delicious food items stop getting made any more.

Such is the case with COOK's Beef En Croute.

As you can see, it's £7.50 and apparently 1 portion. However, I shared it with Laura and there was plenty - in fact, she gave me the last couple of bites of hers.
Here's what it looks like before you put it in the oven.
Comes, or rather came with a pot of wild mushroom sauce which was microwaveable.
On the side I did two portions of the very nice Chantenay Carrots and Petits Pois.
Didn't arrange it particularly artistically, I know - nouvelle cuisine has ruined food, in my opinion.

Lots of really tender beef inside the puff pastry, wrapped with a layer of a mushroom duxelle.
The trouble, as I said, is that this dish is sadly no longer available at COOK. I bought the last one in the shop. The product, despite being delicious and great value for money, has been superseded by 2 Beef Wellingtons, which are smaller, prettier (but like I said, I don't care about that - am I gonna eat it or paint it in oils?), and at £15.99, bloody pricey. Have I sampled it? No, not yet, but it better be bloody good when I do. But as I said, nothing stays the same, does it?

I was a bit disoriented the other day as I walked through the Tesco car park when the familiar skyline of the Emerald City of Seattle hove into view. I rubbed my eyes in disbelief, but it turned out it was only an ad for a new line of ready-to-go chilled coffee beverages from Starbucks, a company more bent on global domination than Microsoft and the Edmonds Brothers (little Tenterden in-joke) combined.

Yes, apparently it's a Seattle Latte, as opposed to any other kind of latte, I guess.
Kooshti sante!
