Plonk

I like a nice wine, but sadly my uneducated palate only goes so far. After you get past a certain level, say about 7 or 8 pounds, the nuances of higher-priced wines are lost on me. I can't really tell the difference between a £15 wine and a £50 bottle. So it goes. However, I do know what I like. Here are a couple I can recommend.

The Whale Caller, 2011 Sauvignon Blanc/Colombard from South Africa. £4.99 at Waitrose. Damn good plonk for the money.

Domaine De Pellehaut 2010 Gascogne. £6.99 from Liquid Pleasure. Another decent medium-dry white that won't break the bank. Lovely.

  1. Many thanks for the comments on the wine from our store here in Tenterden, the Waitrose offering is as you said not a bad offering as often i have seen an empty bottle there when i get home.
You need educating in the more expensive wines, you truly do get better wines the more you pay but it is all down to personal taste.
When you now pay 1.93 duty plus at least 25p to ship then the cost of the label/glass/cork/box it comes in the margin to the middle man ie agent the margin to the retailer also 20% vat what are you left with well the grower will actualy lose 50cents if the wine is on a 3 for £10 so what does the wine taste of.....yes supermarket wines.I have on good authority that the buyers at a supermarket are targeting 20pence wines at cost....appalling rubbish that you guys fall for.
